7. Does Jio TV Work with smart TV only?
No, you can connect to Jio Phone with any TV to watch your movies on a bigger screen. Smart TV is not necessary. You can connect Jio Phone with any TV be it CRT, LCD or a Smart TV.
8. Can We Use Any Sim With Jio Phone?
No, Jio Phone won’t support every sim card. You need to insert a Jio Sim card to use Jio Phone. Even it is being said that the new handset will be activated only after you insert a Jio Sim.
9. Will it be dual-sim phone?
No, Jio Phone will support only one SIM card that too must be a Jio SIM.
10. Does Jio Phone have Hotspot? Will it support WiFi?
When Jio Phone was launched at RIL AGM last month, some of the key features of the phone were demonstrated and all the features were listed in a presentation slide as can be seen in the image below:
The slide nowhere mentions that the phone supports WiFi or will have a mobile tethering feature commonly known as hotspot.
Another source of information about the Jio Phone is the leaked Jio Phone retail brochure. This brochure also nowhere mentions about the WiFi or the hotspot feature of the phone.
The official Jio site does mention the WiFi support support for the Jio Phone. But Hotspot support is listed nowhere.
From all this we can conclude that the phone does come with WiFi but no Hotspot feature.
Information For Jio Dealers
As per Instructions from Relaince Jio, all the Jio Dealers need to update their JIO POS app to the latest version.
After downloading the latest version dealers will be able to access the new Pre Booking Voucher feature in the Jio POS. To purchase these vouchers dealers will have to make an advance payment of Rs 500 only through digital payment modes like BHIM, Jio Money, Paytm, Net-banking etc. This is to promote the digital methods of payments.
Each Retailer can purchase upto 40 pre-booking vouchers in the first lot.
These vouchers can’t be sold out before 24th August. The retailer needs to input the customer details in the new POS version.
For the next lot, prebooking voucher allocation to retailer will be based on 3 conditions:
- The retailer has purchased the first lot vouchers.
- Leads input by the Retailer (PRM ID)
- Balance availability basis pre-booking situation.
The pre-booking status will be communicated to the dealers through SMS.
Why we may witness long queues outside Jio Retail outlets!
If you remember the days, when Jio SIM cards were launched for general public, jio retail outlets witnessed huge rush. This led to the shortage of stocks and even black marketing. People were willing to pay upto Rs 500 (or even 1000) for the free Jio SIM.
Will the same situation arise again?
As already mentioned above that each retailer will be given only 40 handsets, this means that the phone will be available in the limited quantity. Although Jio says that they will manufacture around 5 million devices every week but everyone would want to get the phone at earliest.
This will eventually lead to the similar kind of situation that we witness during the distribution of Jio SIM cards. However, we hope that this time Jio manages everything more efficiently and such situation doesn’t arise.
